Went to Aquarium of the Pacific tonight and saw the most amazing thing. A mother and daughter (maybe 10 years old) were playing with the sea lions. There is a tunnel that runs underneath the seal and sea lion habitat where you can see them swimming around. My experience has been that I usually don't see them because they are sunning themselves up top.

So these folks had a bright yellow tennis ball, also colored in purple that they were rolling from one end of the tunnel to the other. And the sea lions were following that ball like a happy pack of dogs with a fascinating toy! They swam races with it as it went back and forth, followed the little girl wherever she went, and turned somersaults and interacted with the kids in every way. I wish I had a picture, but regardless, it was way cool!

The mother explained that they had seen this done a couple years ago, and decided to take a ball with them on their next visit. She fully thought the aquarium staff would ask her to stop, but they encouraged it because it got the sea lions to exercise and give them something fun to do.

Nifty!
