Busy Weekend

rangersylOn Saturday I got up at oh dark thirty to get to the LA Zoo by 7:30 to go to a member event. It was great fun - and I got lots of pictures I'll try to share on LJ as soon as I remember how to set up FTP again.
Highlights:
Sea Lion Training session - keepers put the sea lions through their paces, which was very cool.
The lions dismantling a cardboard 'giraffe' that the keepers put in their enclosure for fun.
Some great pictures - including a hummingbird (wild) that stood still long enough for me to snap a picture.
Lowlights:
Some obnoxious man yelling into the crowd during the sea lion demonstration - telling the adults that 'there are children who can't see because there are adults in the front row'. Okay... now... this adult paid her membership just like everyone else. This was not a kids-designated event. I got there early to get a good spot. Plus, I'm not much taller than most of these kids to begin with; and hello, when there's a crowd I'm usually the first person who gets their view blocked and I just suck it up. Plus I'm taking photographs, which means that a small child standing in front of me will jostle me and prevent me from taking good pictures. And good pictures was why I got up at oh dark thirty on a Saturday morning in the first place. Humph. I didn't give up my spot.
To continue - watched three more Remington Steele episodes with a friend. I'm so falling in love with this show all over again.
On Sunday went bird-watching with another friend, just down at the beach by my house. Saw quite a few shorebirds and even a kestrel! My first wild sighting.
This was followed by fish tacos. Life is good.
