So it's been a while since I updated, and I received a friendly nudge from
lenairina so how could I resist :)
There's a lot to report. First, I've been persuaded to knock the dust off my rolemaster books and GM a game. (that would be fantasy role-playing game). We had our first session a couple weeks ago and it went rather well! We do need more players, though. Just in case anyone knows somebody in southern California who might be interested...
Also, I volunteered to volunteer at the Aquarium of the Pacific. For many reasons, including:
a) I love animals (and as
synaesthete7 and
taiamu know I'm like a kid in a candy store when I visit a good zoo).
b) I'm a zoologist who works for an agency that isn't really zoology-related. At least, not in the field biology.
and c) I am, I admit, in desperate need of expanding my social circle.
So I picked the aquarium because it's closest of the AZA accredited institutions in the area, and has a lot of volunteer positions where you may actually get to participate in husbandry.
I sent in my application, was accepted, and went to two weekends of orientation. Now I'm hoping to be an aquarist volunteer -- but I know that since I'm only really available on Friday afternoons, I'm kind of self-limiting. I do have an interview with the Chief Aquarist next week, so wish me luck!
What else? Oh, Mom and I are going to take an arctic cruise in August. That means I'm going to have to figure out how to work my camera properly so I can take some great photos of ice, polar bears, and the northern lights. Yay!
